Belfast and The Causeway Coast

Last Sunday I got the chance to meet up with some old friends (Katrin & Antoinette) that I knew from my time in Liverpool. It had been 10 years since I last seen them. We decided to get together in Belfast and take in the City sights while catching up. That weekend the Tall Ships Race was being staged in the City, So we made our way to the docks and took in the sights. We then walked through the City up to Queens University and into The Botanical Gardens and finishing it off with some food from Made In Belfast.  It was lovely to finally meet after so long, and it just seemed as though we hadn't seen each other in about a month. The laughter and conversations flowed continuously throughout the day until we made our way home. 

The following day I caught up with Katrin again, who had decided to take a trip up from Monaghan to see the Giants Causeway, before heading back to Germany.  I took the ferry again from Greencastle and made my way to The Giants Causeway. This made me think how lucky we are to have this on our doorstep. The amount of beautiful area's we can access inside an hour of driving here in Inishowen is fantastic.  So with my tourist onboard we made our way to Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and proceeded to walk along the cliffs to the rope bridge. We were treated to the unpredictable Irish weather, but this worked in our favour as the clouds that passed overhead really made a fantastic impression on the surrounding landscape. 

With the Rope Bridge ticked off the To-Do List, we made our way to Armoy in search of The Dark Hedges (GPS/Sat Nav: BT53 8TP) Due to our location, the phone reception was pretty poor and my phone's navigation (WAZE App) wasn't working, but thankfully Katrin had an idea of the direction, so we managed to get by until the phone coverage picked up. Upon arriving at The Dark Hedges we were greeted by a beautiful avenue of trees. It really is something special. But be careful if your taking photos, as this road did have some passing traffic. 

We finished off the trip by grabbing a quick bite in Bushmills before saying our goodbyes. Hopefully it won't be too long until our next catch up.
